OUR STORY
Blue Barn Lavender began as a family project rooted in our love for nature and working side by side. Over the years, our family farm has grown into a flourishing patch of 1,500 lavender plants nestled in Whitefish, Montana. Each summer, our family works side by side to cultivate, harvest, and share our lavender with the community — from field to farmers’ market to you.

MEET THE BARKERS
When we first met, we would wander our local farmers market together, imagining what it might be like to one day run a stand of our own. Michael grew up on a wheat farm in Idaho, and Katherine on a cattle ranch in Montana, so the dream of tending the land was woven into both of us from the start.
Years later, as the proud parents of four energetic boys, we found ourselves looking for any excuse to spend more time outdoors—and a small lavender farm felt like the perfect fit.
Affectionately known around town as the Barker Boys, our sons eagerly jump in each summer to help weed, water, and harvest the lavender. The little bit of spending money doesn’t hurt—but it’s the family time in the field that they love most.

Every Blue Barn product is handcrafted by us, right in our own kitchen. Making each item ourselves allows us to use only the highest-quality, whole ingredients—nothing less. Everything we create is infused with the care we have for our craft, our family, and the people who bring our products into their homes. We hope you can feel that love in every use.



THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF LAVENDER
A growing body of scientific research suggests that lavender offers meaningful benefits for stress relief, sleep support, and overall well-being. A 2023 systematic review found that inhaling lavender essential oil consistently reduced anxiety across a wide range of study participants, with measurable decreases in pulse rate, blood pressure, and respiration. Earlier clinical trials also showed that an oral lavender-oil preparation provided anxiety relief comparable to a standard dose of lorazepam, offering a natural alternative with promising results.
Beyond easing stress and anxiety, lavender has been studied for its potential to improve sleep and support healthy neurological function. Research points to key compounds—such as linalool and linalyl acetate—which may interact with NMDA receptors and serotonin transporters in the brain. These interactions help explain lavender’s calming, mood-supporting effects. In addition, a 2022 review highlighted lavender oil’s anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, noting early evidence that it may help reduce inflammation and support healthy skin and wound-healing processes.
